An insightful blog post article by Seth Godin called “Bullying is Theft” illustrates how important it is to part of a group work culture that creates a safe space where employees can contribute their ideas and efforts and even take creative risks – without undue stress or fear.
In energy terms, the first chakra or “root” is where survival instinct, the ability to be grounded and productive and your connection to your “tribe” all come together. In an individual, the root chakra is vital to both physical health and the ability to manifest abundance. If you work in a place with high employee turnover, illness, workaholic behavior, bullying, fear of the business failing, or anything else that makes you feel that your survival is threatened, you will need to bring your root chakra into alignment FIRST if you want things to get better.
The first step is make sure your physical health and emotional wellness are priority. For example, you must make a commitment to exercising regularly, taking the time to slow down and focus on eating, and doing physical activities that are relaxing and grounding, such as yoga or stretching, or getting a massage.
The next step is to insist on living and working in place where you feel safe and supported. You have to be realistic about what you can change and what you can’t. You have to know when to set a boundary, when to just change your attitude about something and when to walk away.
Let go of the fear of losing your job or business – or even your relationship. I’m not talking about a normal, healthy level of fear that allows you to focus and meet a challenge. I’m talking about persistent dread and insecurity. If you are living in that kind of fear, there is no way to be healthy and productive. If you live in that kind of fear, you are in danger of losing your health and the relationships that do nurture and support you.
Many spiritually-minded people try to force positive change in their life by pushing against the world with the power of thought (sixth chakra). You can’t visualize or manifest yourself into health, wealth and happiness if your lower chakras – the ones connected to your physical and emotional health – are broken.
Don’t let fear steal your life! Take it as the messenger it is meant to be and respond in a way that makes sense for your situation.
